Combining plaster, pigment and a binding agent, artisans developed the art of scagliola to fool the eye and emulate stone. The projects pictured include: a marble fireplace whose missing interior panels were reproduced in scagliola; columns created with a spattered technique popular in America in the early 1900's; a set of inlayed tabletops; and samples of colors and patterns limited only by the imagination. |
